The Effects of Abuse and Neglect from Parent on Adolescent Suicidal Ideation Focusing on the Mediating Pathway of Subjective Happiness
Park Jae-Yeon

Abstract
This study examines the structural relationships between risk/protective factors and adolescent suicidal ideation. As risk factors, we chose abuse and neglect from their parent. As protective factor, subjective happiness was chosen. Data was obtained from the 7th wave of Korea Welfare Panel Survey. The subjects consisted of 496 high school students. The data was examined by the statistics software SPSS 20.0 and AMOS 20.0, utilizing descriptive statistics, factor analysis, and structural equation model analysis. As a result, abuse had significant positive effects on suicidal ideation, while neglect influenced suicidal ideation via subjective happiness. Subjective happiness had negative effects on suicidal ideation. The different effects of abuse and neglect as risk factors on the structural model were identified and subjective happiness was verified to be a significant factor to prevent adolescent suicidal ideation. This important findings can contribute to implementing policies for prevention of adolescent suicide.
